Historic Tambo Queensland

Tambo is the oldest town in Central Queensland and was settled in 1863 when some of the early carriers and drovers needed a place to stopover. A blacksmith's shop was established and by 1865 there was a pub for the thirsty travellers making their way from Charleville to Longreach.

Coolibah Walk along the Barcoo RiverSome of Tambo's unique tourist attractions include the Heritage Walk through the town that will take you back in time, visiting old buildings and historic sites.

The Tambo Lake area is a recreational retreat offering barbecue facilities, nature walks, native tree forest and water sports.

Take an early morning or late afternoon stroll along the Coolibah Walk which offers a cool haven along the Barcoo River amongst superior gum trees, local plants and native birds.

Just off the beaten track is the Dingo Fence, an artists paradise.  For bird watchers there are hundreds of different species in the area, or just sit back and enjoy the quiet of the bush.

Tambo TeddiesTambo is famous for its Teddies. The Tambo Teddies Company is Australia's only manufacturer of sheepskin Teddies from specially selected sheep. These are all made right here in Tambo by local ladies and are named after properties in the area.

Everyone goes to see our Teddies, and few leave without them.
